Carlos C. Avila, 91, of North Providence, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14th, surrounded by his loving family at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence. He was the son of the late Francisco Avila and Maria de Coracao de Jesus. Born in Agualva, Terceira, Azores, Portugal, Carlos had three other brothers and two sisters who are all deceased: Francisco, Jose, Luis, Maria and Maria de Lurdes.

He immigrated with his wife and daughters to the United States in 1976 residing in Rhode Island. He was employed as a maintenance worker at Cadilac Textiles of Cumberland and Monet Jewelers in Pawtucket, Rhode Island until his retirement. He is the widower of the late Maria (Avelar) Avila and the couple were married 54 years. The couple had seven children: Carlos Manuel, and Ana Luisa, both deceased and leaves five other daughters: Irene Amaral of Pawtucket, Mary-John Santos of North Providence, Fatima Aguiar of East Providence, Odilia Avila of Pawtucket and Paula Rodrigues of Central Falls. He leaves five son in-laws: Antonio Amaral of Pawtucket, Victor Santos from North Providence, Joao Rodrigues from Central Falls, Claudio Aguiar from East Providence, Raul Otero from Pawtucket and daughter in Law, Maria Joao Avila residing in Canada. He was the proud grandfather of Crystal Hope Rodrigues, (deceased) Kelly Avila, Melissa Fagundes, Tanya Santos, Joshua Pereira, Brandon Lopes, Chelsie Santos, Ashley Avila, Briana Lopes, MaKayla Rodrigues, Katelynn Rodrigues, Brittney Avila, Tyler Pereira and Kendra Rodrigues, and six great grandchildren. He is the brother in law of the late Francisco, Elisa and Manuel Avelar, and Jose, Maria e Elsa Avelar who reside in Pawtucket. He also leaves various nieces and nephews.

A Parishioner of Saint Anthony’s Church in Pawtucket for many years, he was also a founding member of the Community Center Grupo Amigos da Terceira in Pawtucket and the Holy Spirit Society of Saint Anthony’s Church in Pawtucket. He volunteered for many years in both organizations.

Visiting hours at Keefe Funeral Home, Higginson Avenue, in Lincoln , Rhode Island will be held on Monday, March 18 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Anthony’s Church, Lawn Ave., Pawtucket at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 19. Burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cumberland will be private following the mass. All mass attendees will meet at church.

Era filho dos jà falecidos Francisco C. Avila e Maria do Coracao de Jesus. Nascido na freguesia da Agualva, ilha Terceira, Acores, Portugal, Carlos teve três irmãos e duas irmães, todos jà falecidos: Francisco, Jose, Luis, Maria e Maria de Lurdes.

Imigrou para os Estados Unidos em 1976 com sua esposa e seis filhas residindo em Rhode Island. Trabalhou como pessoa de manutenção no Cadilac Textiles em Cumberland e Monet Jewelers em Pawtuckewt até se reformar. Era viuvo da sua esposa Maria (Avelar) Avila qual estiveram casados 54 anos e o casal tinham séte filhos: Carlos Manuel e Ana Luisa, jà falecidos e ainda Irene Amaral de Pawtucket, Maria Joao Santos de North Providence, Fatima Aguiar de East Providence, Odilia Avila de Pawtucket e Paula Rodrigues de Central Falls. Deixa ainda cinco jenros e uma nora: Antonio Amaral de Pawtuckcet,Victor Santos de North Providence, Joao Rodrigues de Central Falls, Claudio Aguiar de East Providence, Raul Otero de Pawtucket e a nora Maria Joao Avila no Canada. Deixa ainda treze netos: Crystal Hope Rodrigues (Ja falecida), Kelly Avila, Melissa Fagundes, Joshua Pereira, Tanya Santos, Brandon Lopes, Chelsie Santos, Briana Lopes, Tyler Pereira, Ashely Avila, Makayla Rodrigues, Katelynn Rodrigues, Brittney Avila and Kendra Rodrigues assim como seis bisnetos. Era cunhado dos jà falecidos, Francisco, Eliza e Manuel Avelar e ainda Jose, Maria e Elsa Avelar que residem em Pawtucket. Tambem deixa varios sobrinhos e sobrinhas.

Um paroquiano da Paroquia de Santo Antonio em Pawtucket, de longa data, Carlos Avila tambem era membro fundador do Centro Comunitario Grupo Amigos da Terceira em Pawtucket e membro da Irmandade do Divino Espirito Santo da Paroquia de Santo Antonio em Pawtucket. Foi voluntario das duas organizações por muitos anos.
Visitas à Casa Funeraria Keefe em Higginson Ave., Lincoln, Rhode Island serà na Segunda-feira, dia 18 de Março das 4:00 às 7:00 da noite. Havera missa de corpo presente na Paroquia de Santo Antonio em Lawn Avenue, Pawtucket, na Terça-feira, dia 19 pelas 10:00 Horas. Todos interessados assistirem ha missa devem se dirigir diretamente ha igreija. O interro no Cimenterio Monte do Calvario em Cumberland Rhode Island após a missa serà privado.
